New ICW Bridge Opens Just in Time for Memorial Day Travel
Wonderful news for residents and visitors of Alabama’s Gulf Coast — the new Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) Bridge is officially open just in time for the busy Memorial Day holiday weekend! The long-anticipated project now creates a smoother connection helping improve traffic flow for beachgoers heading to Alabama’s beautiful white-sand beaches.

The updated traffic pattern includes two southbound lanes traveling across the brand-new ICW Bridge and two northbound lanes utilizing the former toll bridge. The project also features a new connector roadway and roundabout system designed to reduce congestion and improve travel times throughout the area.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), the improved route is expected to create safer and more efficient travel between Beach Express, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan — especially during peak tourism seasons and holiday weekends.

This major infrastructure improvement is another exciting step forward for Coastal Alabama, enhancing accessibility to our beach communities while supporting continued growth, tourism, and real estate activity along the Gulf Coast.
Whether you’re visiting for Memorial Day weekend or considering making Coastal Alabama your permanent home, easier access between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is welcome news for everyone who loves the area.
