Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh put it perfectly: “We’re full steam ahead with tremendous momentum.”

The $15 Million Terminal Expansion: Scaling Up at Record Speed

The growth isn’t stopping at new routes. Groundbreaking on the $15 million terminal expansion is tentatively set for June 2026, with completion targeted for May 2027 — right in time for another busy summer.

This smart upgrade will add two new boarding gates with outdoor patio space, expand the baggage claim area, improve the terminal access drive to handle two A320/B737 aircraft at once, and boost concessions with a news/gift shop and in-terminal restaurant. As Fosnaugh noted, the plans are “very much on track” and designed to mirror the rapid rise in air service while keeping costs in check.

From day one, the airport has been expanding fast; adding seasonal routes, a fun Lulu’s kiosk, and now this major upgrade. It’s a clear signal that Gulf Shores is all-in on smart, accelerated growth.
